Sanctuary Of Sights And Sounds

Do you have a beautiful back yard and want to create a bird sanctuary? Want a bird-friendly yard so your family can identify the different birds that fly into your yard? Creating a bird sanctuary can add fun and entertainment to your back yard. By adding a few special areas to your back yard you can enjoy the wonderful sights and sounds of your garden.

Birds love bird baths and by putting one in your yard will attract many birds. The bird bath will serve double duty for drinking water and for bathing. A bird bath can be very inexpensive such as a large plastic disc or a ceramic plant dish. A bird bath should also be put where other animals can not have access to it and if you live in an area where it tends to freeze in the winter you will need to either empty the bath or add a heating element to the center.

Bird feeders can be fun to watch when put near your window for viewing. Many shapes and sizes can be readily found at most garden stores as well as the seed for any type of local bird. Most bird seed mixtures include millet, sunflower seeds and appeal to most birds. A covered bird feeder will protect the seeds from rain, wind and other weather related issues. Finding an area that cannot be reached by squirrels or mice may be the hardest part of creating your bird sanctuary but there are ways of making sure that squirrels cannot reach the seeds.

Another great addition to your bird sanctuary is a bird house. You can make these yourself and for specific sizes of birds that inhabit your garden.
