To have a beautiful garden, you don’t need to run out and spend all your money on fancy gardening tools. Just buy a few of the basic tools that you really need to start out with and spend the rest of your money on plants and seeds.
If you are starting your garden from scratch, you will need a shovel or spade. If your plot is small you can use hand tools. However, if you intend for your garden to cover a substantial amount of ground, you should invest in or rent a power tool such as a tiller or rotary tiller. Shovels and tillers prepare the ground for planting by digging up any existing plants and loosening the dirt so the new plant’s root system can take hold. Rakes and hoes can also loosen up the dirt in smaller areas. A garden hose or watering can will also come in handy once your plants are in the ground. A wheelbarrow could be helpful if your garden is located a distance from your gardening supplies or you need to mix compost in with your garden soil.
To protect your hands from blisters you should invest in some good garden gloves. Knee pads will also come in handy; you will appreciate them after only a couple of minutes on your hands and knees planting or weeding your garden. A good hat to keep the sun off your face and protective eye wear such as sunglasses with hand tools and goggles for power tools will also help keep your body safe. Finally, a small pair of hand shears will be helpful when trimming or cutting back your plants. Garden tools are not required for a lovely garden, but they will make the job much easier and gardening more fun.
