Making a Bird Sactuary

Building a bird sanctuary is a very easy project. It can be a project for the whole family, and will bring many hours of enjoyment as you watch the birds come through the year to your feeder.

The landscape for your bird sanctuary will need various trees, bushes, berry pushes, and even flowers that will attract hummingbirds. Your local nursery or garden center will be very helpful in choosing the proper trees, shrubs, and bushes for your particular area.

You will want to have bird houses, some bird nests in the trees and bushes, and others will appreciate a bird house. You will need different houses for different birds. Other birds will want a condo that is up on a pole, away from the trees. The condo type bird house is more expensive than the other single bird houses. You can even build your own bird houses and condos to save some money. You can also take pride in the fact that you built it yourself. Keep in mind that cats like to search out the bird population when you are placing your bird houses.

You will want a bird bath for your bird sanctuary; the birds will want to drink after eating, and take a bath also. You will want to keep the bird bath away from trees and bushes due to the cats in the area. Also in winter you can purchase a heater for the bath to keep it from freezing.

You will also want feeders for your bird sanctuary; they come in various shapes and sizes. You will want one that will protect the seeds from the weather, and can be filled with ease. Again remember the furry creatures that will want to get into the seed, and might prey on your birds as they feed.
