Bird Houses

Bird houses can be a great addition to your garden. It can be so relaxing and exciting at the same time to watch them. There are a bunch of houses and they are each different in their own way. Some of the houses attract certain birds, which depends on the color of the house and the size.

There are also different designs on the bird houses. Some have the look of a house; some are a bit crazier. They can be decorated with flowers, birds, or a theme of your choice.

If you want swallows to show up in your garden, you want your house to be at least six inches wide on the inside. The entry hole should also be about two and a half inches tall. If you are hanging a house for wrens, it can be simple and small. The entry should be at least an inch tall for them to get in. This also gives them a place to go to stay away from predators. Birdhouses that are made out of natural environments attract chickadees and nuthatches. These types of natural environments are wood, grass, straw, bark, etc.

Houses that are hung in the garden should be made out of wood. If you hang a metal house in the garden it will be too hot for the birds. Most bird houses have perches near the hole and these are not recommended to have. These often allow other animals to enter, or to wait outside the house for the bird to exit/enter.
