Traditional Gardens

Traditional gardens are simple homes of flora, fauna and tranquility. Going to your grandmother's garden and seeing the flowers in it will see what a truly traditional garden is all about. A traditional garden is usually located very close to the house. Some sort of path, whether it be brick, stone or grass, usually runs threw it. Most traditional gardens are given names and it is usually named after the house that it is grown by. Many traditional gardens that are very close to the house will continue on, onto the house by a window box filled with flowers. The most common flowers are daisies, lavender, lily of the valley, iris, viola, bleeding heart, poppies, tulip, hollyhock, foxglove, zinnia, sunflower, canna, gladiolus and crocus. You may also see birdhouses and statues of various designs incorporated in them.

A traditional cottage garden is done with flowers, shrubs, vines and bulbs that will come back every year or every other year. This is known as perennial and biennial plants. These plants are easy to grow and the flowers are very fragrant. Vines used in a cottage garden are not only for greenery, but they will have flowers on them as well.

Some people have started to incorporate water features within their gardens. These will be in a form of streams, canals, fountains and ponds. Also incorporated with this will be rocks; they have seemed to become very popular in the last few years. Your imagination is your best feature in building your own traditional garden.
